NOTE:
I am trying to maintain the website while making a
transition to a newer computer (Windows 11).
From the beginning in 2000, the website has always been
built using MS Frontpage (2003). Unfortunately, that
software, because of its "age" (and mine), isn't really
supported that well any more, making it difficult to know if
the pages look the way they should or not. Very frustrating!
I hope to find ways to keep the site up to date, while
hopefully learning and building a new parallel site (using
Adobe Dreamweaver & Bootstrap?) The learning curve is
challenging and time consuming. If anyone out there has
experience with those, I could use a mentor! EMAIL me
if you might like to help!
The shear amount of pages, photos, and history of this site
over 23 years is so massive! I don't want to lose the
important history, but would love to get the site updated
and responsive for newer technology.
Hopefully, the site can be maintained for all of you to use.
Someday, that might be a problem. For now, fingers crossed.

unfortunate and complete
computer hard drive failure and the associated recovery and

the fire / rescue departments serving the
Cape Cod & Islands area of southeastern
Massachusetts, USA.
We hope that this site will meet or exceed your
expectations. If so, you may find that it can
serve as a daily hub from which to find whatever
you need to know about the fire rescue service
in the Cape Cod area and beyond.
The site continues to grow and evolve to serve you

About This Site
IN THE BEGINNING
|
In The
Beginning
The roots of
CapeCodFD.com could be tracked back to the early
1970s, when as a teenager, I first started listening
to fire departments on the radio.
The first scanner I ever owned was a primitive, 8 channel,
crystal controlled radio that literally opened up a
whole new world to me. It enabled me to listen to my
local fire department and many of the other fire
departments on Cape Cod. I quickly began to learn
the language and what all those radio numbers and
call signs represented. It was back then, that
I began making written lists to use as a reference guide
for my own use when listening to the scanner.
Eventually, I had amassed a considerable amount of
information about the departments and apparatus.

Directories
In 1992, I self-published my first Barnstable
County Fire Departments Directory, which
contained a ton of information about the Cape Cod
Fire Departments and their apparatus.
That first Directory was a lot of work, but quickly proved to
be the place to go to look something up. I sold a
number of copies to folks like myself, who saw the
value in having that information at their finger
tips when they needed it.
In 1995, I once again self-published a second,
larger, and even more comprehensive version of the
Directory. Again, it was a huge amount of work to
accomplish, but served its purpose for years to
come.
At the time, my intention was to continue to publish
similar updates every few years as enough changes
would warrant.
By the late 1990s, some of my friends had started using
this new thing called the Internet and they were
using their laptop computers to build websites of
their own. It looked like fun, and I started
thinking about how it might be a different way to
share information, the way the Directories had, with
the additional advantages of sharing color photos
and updating information as it changed.
Born on September
11, 2000
I had done a
lot of work and had my basic website built over the
Summer of 2000. I chose September 11 to be the date
I would first publish CapeCodFD.com online. It was
cleverly based on the relatively new (at the time)
Emergency Phone Number 911.
The purpose of the new website was simply to become an
online
place for people to go to when looking for
information about the fire departments on Cape Cod.
The early version was relatively basic, but based in
many ways on how the Directories worked. Essential
information about the departments, stations,
apparatus, and other useful facts. The opportunity
to utilize photos in addition to the information
helped make the site work.
There was no way at the time of knowing what 9/11 would
come to represent just 1 year later.

News
From the
beginning, the idea was to be able to use the site
to share information about the departments,
stations, apparatus, incidents, and whatever else
was going on.
The Home
Pages, essentially the "A" Section of this
site include the Welcome, Headlines, Apparatus,
Stations, Department News, and more. These include
the latest news and updates of the site.
Fire & EMS
Department Profiles
The core of
CapeCodFD.com are the Reference Pages. The site
covers approximately 50 Fire & EMS Departments
within 4 Counties in Southeastern Massachusetts.
Each of the departments are currently profiled within
the
FIND
DEPARTMENTS tab that includes all the
Department Profiles..
Approximately 100 Stations are included within the
FIND
FIRE STATIONS tab.
There are over 300 Apparatus within the
FIND
APPARATUS tab.
Another way to view departments is by the
FIND
ROSTERS pages.
There are additional pages and information to check
out.

One of my
favorite sections is within the Special
PHOTO
FEATURES section. These are many pages
covering Apparatus, Stations, Incidents, and much
more listed by year for reference and of interest.

I am
currently part of the forward deployed aircraft carrier USS
KITTY HAWK stationed in Japan. I have been away from home
for over a year and about a half now. I have just recently
been given orders to go fight the war on terror in
Afghanistan. I was residing in the town of Bourne, MA where
I had done a day long observation with the fire fighting
team and EMS. I have been an aspiring firefighter since I
was born. I love what you have done with this web site it
has been a moral booster on those six month deployments on
the water and knowing that the job that these firefighters
have been doing to keep my family and community safe has
been fantastic. I wanted to give you big thanks. Keep up

Hi Britt,
Just wanted to share with you about my special boy. Our son
Chad is 8 years old and has Asperger's Syndrome, a high
functioning form of Autism. Since he was about 1 year old he
has been "into" fire trucks. He has only grown to love them and
all that goes with it as he gets older.
I don't know how I discovered your web site, but needless to say
it is the motivation I needed to get him to school lately. He
really hates going and the teachers are becoming more insistent
he not talk about firefighting. So each morning before he
leaves for school we come to your web site and are going thru
each state. He gets to pick a couple favorites which I print
for him and he takes them to school. We give them to his
teacher (he's in special ed.) and when he completes reading or
math he gets to spend a few minutes relaxing and looking at
them.
He is also into the old Emergency show and watches an episode or
2 daily. He also likes Adam 12. He and his Dad play each night
at bedtime the they are Roy & Johnny!
Well Britt, this is longer than I planned but I just wanted you
to know the joy you have brought our little boy. Thanks so
